The castle of Ucor stands up on a rocky promontory that dominates the birth of the river Ucor and entrance to the Canyon of the River Lobos. Although its current structure dates mainly from the 14th and XV centuries, its origin and its association with the Order of Temple make it a place of worship for esoterism and medieval history. It's believed that this place was the heart of the missing Template monastery of St. John of Otero.
The sign of the Order of the Temple
The relationship between Unezo and the nuns-warriors manifests itself both in historic documentation and in symbols engraved on the stone.
Symbology at the Tower of Tribute: A Magnus Dei (Lamb of God), an unequivocal symbol of temperary iconography, can be seen at the key of the vault of the main tower.
Connection with San Bartolomé: The castle formed a spiritual and defensive unit with the Hermitage of San Bartolomé, situated inside the canyon. Both constructions share a geographical and symbolic alignment linked to the summer solstice.
Gárgolas and Relieves: The pits of the tower preserve gargolas with human and animal figures that, according to tradition, keep hidden messages about the knowledge of the Order.
Architecture and Current Visit
Today, the castle is a Visible Monument that offers one of the best panoramic views of the & quot; Duero line & quot; and the Sarian Karsatico landscape.
Torre del Tribute: It's best preserved. It stands out for its elegant cruise vault and its gemini windows that reflect the transition to Gothic style.
The Triple Wintering Plate: It's still possible to distinguish the remains of the interface barrier and the pits that protected the fortress from the most accessible side.
Underground Passage: One of the most famous legends speaks about a tunnel that came down from the castle to the river to allow water supply in case of siege.
Legends of Solstice
The popular culture states that during the summer solstice night you can hear Gregorian songs and fantastic music that come from the ruins. These stories, coupled with its strategic location, make the Unor Castle an essential destination for those who seek more than just a tourist visit: a connection with Soria's darkest and most fascinating past.
To visit the castle of Unezo is to look at the mystery of the Templars while the royal eagle flies through the walls that once guarded the way to the Canyon of the Lobos River. < / p > < / Section >
