The Lakes of Covadonga represent the undisputed emblem of the National Park of the Picos of Europa in Asturias. Located at more than 1,000 metres of altitude, this place offers one of the most spectacular landscapes of Northern Spain, fusing limestone peaks with an intense green meadow.
What to see in the Lakes: Enol, Ercina and the & quot; ghost lake & quot;
The main set consists of two permanent water masses: Lake Enol and Lake Ercina. The most lucky visitors, however, can discover Lake Bricial, the & quot; third in discord & quot; that only emerges during melting or after heavy rain, creating a magic and ephemeral figure.
Beyond its landscape value, the area is a reference to an Asturian cattle culture. The prestigious Gamonéu cheese, a gourmet jewel with a protected Designation of Origin, are still being prepared at the traditional pastors' cabins (called pawns).
‡ Hiking tours and points of interest
To clear the experience, we recommend you to conduct the circular path of the Lakes, a simple and well signposted path that connects necessary milestones:
The best panoramic photo for both lakes at once.
The Mas de BuFerrera: A journey to the mining past of the region through tunnels and vagonets.
The best place to understand the diversity of the park.
▪ Critical information: how to get to the Lakes of Covadonga?
Due to its environmental protection status, private car access is regulated throughout most of the year (especially high season, bridges and summer). To secure your visit, it's vital to use the shuttle bus system (Lake Access Plan) that starts from Canga de Onís and other nearby points.
) Travel tip: Always check the schedule and book your tickets in advance to avoid waiting and secure your entrance to this natural paradise. < / p > < / Section >
