Located in the iconic Parque de la Alameda de Cervantes, this small jewel from the 16th century is one of the most dear and visited places by the Sorians.
Architecture and Origins
The Hermitage of Soledad is a simple but charming building dating back to the mid-16th century. It's structure, with a single ship with square headquarters, stands out for its sobriety, typical of the religious constructions of the time at the Sorian Plateau. The location, surrounded by the centuries-old trees of La Dehesa, offers a unique mystical and recollection air in the centre of town.
The Christ of the Humor
Despite its reduced dimensions, the interior of the hermitage houses pieces with great artistic and sentimental value:
The Most Holy Christ of the Humilladero: A stunning 16th-century figure attributed to the workshop of John of Juni. It's one of the most venerated images of the town and a central piece of Easter processions.
Our Lady of Soledad: The image that name the temple with its traditional black mantle, leading to popular Sorian devotion.
Retiro Mayor: A Baroque Retiro that framed the main images and brought solemnity to the small liturgical space.
Link with Soria's Holy Week
The hermitage is the headquarters of the Fairy of the Virgin of Soledad. During Holy Week (declared as Regional Tourist Interest), this temple became the epicentre of emotion as images come into procession through the streets of the centre, with passing through the park being one of the most plastic and beautiful moments for visitors.
A stop at Soria's ride
Visitar la Ermita de la Soledad is the perfect complement for a walk through the Alameda de Cervantes. His environment invites his reading, his resting and his quiet place to be but a few metres from his bustling Collado Street.
Local Council: The hermitage is usually open for worship at morning and late hours. It's an ideal place to observe local traditions closely in a privileged natural environment. < / p > < / Section >
