The Lugo Wall isn't just a monument. It's a civil engineering milestone that has challenged time for more than 17 centuries. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it holds the title of being the only Roman fortification in the world that retains its complete original perimeter of more than 2 km.
Engineering and architecture of Lupus Augusti
Built at the end of the third century to protect the old Lucus Augusti, this defensive structure is perfectly integrated into modern urban planning. The original design includes:
Full Perimeter: A continuous 2,266 m tour.
Mighty Towers: 85 towers (71 of them original) that guaranteed an impenetrable defence.
Historical Access: 10 strategic doors that connect the soul of the historic town with the expansion of today's town.
& quot; To walk his adarve is to walk through the living history of Old Rome under the Galician sky. & quot;
The Adarve: A Ride through the Clouds
The adarve of the wall has been transformed into the most iconic public walk of the town. At an height of 8 to 12 metres, this high road offers an unparalleled panoramic perspective of the historic centre and the cathedral. That's certainly an excellent meeting place for locals and tourists looking for best sunset at the most important Roman monument of the Iberian Peninsula.
Why visit the Lugo Wall?
