Declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984, this architectural jewel sums up as a master the evolution of Usean art at Al-Ándalus combined with subsequent Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque interventions of the Christian faith. Following its construction in the eighth century by order of the emir Abdeleran I above the old Visigoda Basilica of St. Vincent, the building experienced several enlargements under the mandates of Abdeleran II, Alhakén II and Almanzo. It's inner space is widely known for its hypnotizing forest with more than 800 columns of marble, jaspe and granite, crowned by its iconic double arcs in fringes with red and white daves. Among his artistic treasures are the dazzling Mihrab, embellished with golden Byzantine mosaics of incalculable value and the imposing Christian Cathedral built at the heart of the complex during the 16th century. To complete the experience requires to walk through the traditional Patios de los Naranjos and to ascend to the bell tower to behold unforgettable views of the capital of Cordoba. < / p > < / Section >
