A unique brick fortress in the world. < / p > < / Section > < Section > < h3 > What to See < / h3 > < p > Cocoa Castle: The brick dream and mudejar art. That fortress isn't just one of the most beautiful in Spain but a master and unique example of using brick in Mudéjar military architecture. Built in the XV century under the command of the powerful Casa de Alba (especially by Don Alonso de Fonseca), the castle breaks with all medieval stereotypes. What most surprising to the visitor is his location: unlike other castles that seek the height of a hill, it sits on a flat ground, entrusting his defense to an impressive deep and dry moat about 20 meters around the perimeter.
His aesthetics are a display of technical virtuosism. The police towers, the pounding of their almenas and the delicate embellishment of trackery in the brick give them a palace that preserves their true military force. The interiors do not stay behind, highlighting their spectacular playground and a few rooms that preserve the spirit of Spanish nobility. Although currently the headquarters of a prestigious Forest Capatace School, much of its structure, including towers and dungeon, are open to reveal its secrets to travellers.
Details that make it special:
• an Ingenious Defensive System: The coca pits was not designed to be filled with water but to have the attackers exposed to cross fire from the multiple steels and thrones passing through the walls at several levels.
• The Tower of Tribute: It's the heart of the castle. To get up to its highest share allows to understand the magnitude of the work and to enjoy a privileged view of the endless pines surrounding the town of Coca.
• Mystery at the Underground: The castle has a network of galleries and a dashboard with an upper entrance (an ocular), designed so that prisoners have no possibility of escape, strengthening that contrast between the exterior beauty and the harshness of their original function.
A photo advice: The best time to capture the essence of the castle is during the & quot; golden hour & quot; just before sunset. The sun lights up the reddish tone of the brick and the deep shadows of the pits create a 3-dimensional sensation of relief that looks drawn from a fantastic illustration. < / p > < / Section >
